Andromeda: The immunity zone

05/02/09  ||  Lord K Philipson

Now playing: “Deja Vu” by Yngwie J. Malmsteen. (I’m pretty sure he has a song called that. If not, now he does)

I think I have said the following before, but hey – try to come up with something unique every fucken time you have to do a review. Fuck you, cunt. Here goes: it’s no secret that you receive a lot of shit albums when you run a fantastic webzine like Global Domination. Everyone and their mother wants some coverage to reach out to the millions of readers that such a legendary journalistic piece of art provides. Global Domination is the key to stardom and tons of free drugs if you play your cards right with the band you are in, which means we happen to dig what you do. Bribes also work.

I am stuck with some 10 albums in need of reviewing and first out is Sweden’s Andromeda, a band I know from being included in Audio Autopsy at one point. I remember I didn’t like what I heard all too much so my expectations are at level zero. Andromeda plays some half-proggy half-metal with somewhat weak vocals and very little groove. Lucky us. They might be talented musicians and all but it really doesn’t help – so are Dream Theater and they still suck most of the time.

I can’t recommend what Andromeda is doing to any of our readers coz we know for a fact that most of them crave some intensity and brutality in their metal meal. Andromeda simply don’t cut it by a long stretch.

I have said this before, the hardest part when it comes to writing reviews is to write about an album that makes you feel nothing. It’s competent enough to not irritate you but not good enough to grab you by the cunt. It goes on and on without raising any feelings whatsoever – making it quite a task to complete the review in any spectacular way. That’s the worst kind of music to cover – stuff that is emotionless. And that is what Andromeda is to me. Emotionless.

If stuff including lots of weird sounds and electronics along with some kind of metal is your thing – give Andromeda a go. There’s a chance you’ll find some of it entertaining. But the chances of you finding this completely dull are greater.

4 out of 10.
